The Amazing Race will premiere its 25th season this September and it’s getting a lot of TAR fans very, very excited.
Pinoy TAR fans, in particular, would be excited to know that the race has, once again, landed on our shores. Yes, Phil and the whole gang were here in the country for several days. According to information collated from various websites, the globetrotters flew to Manila sometime in June and completed two legs in Cavite and Manila.
Second time’s a charm
In case you’ve forgotten already, The Amazing Race first came to the country in 2004 for Season 5. The remaining four teams visited Cavite, Laguna, the City of Manila, and El Nido, Palawan. The Philippines was featured in the final three episodes.
It’s about time that Worldrace Productions chose the Philippines as a destination for the latest season. It’s not surprising, really. Based on information gathered online, it seemed that Season 25 has an island theme. Most of the destinations were on groups of islands: US Virgin Islands, Shetland Islands in the UK, Sicily, Malta, and Singapore. It’s only fitting that they drop by one of the most beautiful islands in this part of the globe.
This time, the contestants will be running along the streets of Cavite and Manila. We can only imagine how they were able to navigate their way (and kept their cool) in the crowded and traffic-prone streets. Take into consideration the time of their visit, which was during the rainy month of June. The remaining racers for sure had one of the most challenging legs in the race.
It sure would be nice if they were able to visit one of our beaches. That’d be a great way to cap off the season before heading back to the United States for the final leg.
First-ever public kick-off, destinations
Season 25 is one for the books because fans took part in the season premiere. The racers took off from Times Square in New York City, at night, in front of dozens of fans–a first for the show. It’s also the first time the 10-time Emmy winner visited Malta, the Virgin Islands, and Shetlands in Scotland.
Among the countries the show will be visiting include the UK, Morocco, and Italy.
The cast this season is something to be excited about. At least five people might be very familiar to you. These familiar faces include Keith Tollefson and Whitney Duncan, former castaways on Survivor: South Pacific, Bethany Hamilton, the famous female soul surfer who lost her left arm in an accident (which was eventually turned into a movie), and Brooke Adams and Robbie Strauss, professional wrestlers.

This season, production introduced a new twist: The Save. This will be given to the team who can get to the first pit stop. The Save will allow them to save themselves from elimination if they become the last person to step on the mat. Now that’s some powerful twist. It could be a game-changer and we have to see how it turns out.
We’re counting the days for the season premiere on September 26. Can’t wait? Same here.
