Manila Shakespeare Company Gives Romeo & Juliet A Modern Twist

This August, Manila Shakespeare Company revisits Verona as 21st century Manila in their inaugural production of Romeo and Juliet.

At the helm once again is actor-cum-director Nicanor Campos. The production had a brief initial run in February and March of this year, playing to sold out houses every evening.

Audiences were surprised and moved by the production’s unique staging, subtle localization, and passionate ensemble performances. Teatrino at the Promenade in Greenhills will house the rerun with most of the original cast intact. Bright Shakespearean newcomes Nelsito Gomez and Rachel Coates shall resume the center of the play, strongly supported by the likes of Meynard Peñalosa, Issa Litton, Katski Flores, Micko Yabut, and Jonas Gruet – among others.
