For every young boy and girl who loves to play basketball, the opportunity to get up close and personal with any NBA star is gold.
What’s even better is to get the chance to play and get trained by the very people who hone future NBA players, like the coaches at the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA basketball program.
NBA’s basketball program is a great opportunity for aspiring basketball players. Presented by NBA Philippines and Alaska Milk, along with other partners like Gatorade, Globe, and Phoenix Petroleum, the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA aims to find talented and dedicated young individuals who want to be trained in basketball and get the chance to travel outside the country for a rare NBA experience.
At the tip off held recently at the British School Manila, Alaska presented to the media and select audience the lucky youngsters who were chosen for the National Training Camp last year. They were asked to share their wonderful NBA experience. Part of their amazing journey was a trip to Beijing, where they were able to meet Yao Ming, the NBA legend.
The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA program isn’t just about becoming good in basketball or traveling to another country. Its main goal is to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie. It also encourages young individuals to imbibe a healthy and active lifestyle to minimize the incidence of obesity among teens.
So far, more than 26,000 aspiring basketball players have participated in the program. That means this many hoop fanatics have, at the very least, developed the discipline that comes with playing basketball.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the 8-year old program has made a significant impact on the lives of young individuals. The fact that it’s back for another year is a clear indication that it’s doing something right.
According to NBA Philippines Country Manager Carlo Singson, the Jr. NBA program has “positively impacted the lives of Filipino youth, parents and coaches alike for the past eight years.” This noble cause has now reached more than 700 schools and communities in the country.
This year, Alaska and NBA Philippines are looking for the new batch of boys and girls who will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get trained by the best basketball coaches. The Regional Selection Camps are kicking off in various provinces in the country–Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, Binan, Iloilo, Davao, and Baguio.
10 lucky boys and 5 girls are going to be selected from the thousands of aspirants to be part of the National Training Camp in April where they will be trained by awesome coaches. The chosen ones will also experience the amazing NBA Experience Trip at the last quarter of the year.
So, if you aspire to become better at basketball or have kids or younger siblings who love to shoot hoops, then this is the perfect opportunity to be part of an amazing experience.
